Article - A Simple Way to Protect the People and Causes You Care About Most

Retirement planning isn’t really about money—it’s about living the life you want and taking care of what matters most to you. It’s about the grandchildren you hope to support through college. The spouse you want to provide for. The charities that reflect your deepest values. The legacy you’ve spent a lifetime building.

That’s why we’re sending you this annual reminder: take a few minutes to review your beneficiary designations.

More Than Just Paperwork

When you designate beneficiaries on your accounts, you’re doing something profoundly important. You’re making sure that everything you’ve worked for goes exactly where you want it to go, without confusion, delay, or difficulty for the people you love.

Think of it as an act of care and clarity—ensuring that your heirs, your favorite causes, and the legacy you’ve built are protected and honored exactly as you intend.

Life evolves. Children grow up. Grandchildren are born. Circumstances change. New causes inspire you. Taking a moment each year to review your beneficiaries ensures your accounts always reflect your current priorities and the people who matter most to you today.

Your Annual Beneficiary Checkup

Now is the time for your annual beneficiary review. This simple step ensures that your accounts reflect your current wishes and that the legacy you’ve worked so hard to build continues to support the people and causes closest to your heart.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Which accounts have beneficiaries? Individual and joint accounts allow beneficiary designations.
  • Who can you name as beneficiaries? In general, you can name individuals you want to care for, trusts you’ve established to protect your family’s future, or a combination of both. For some accounts, minors and trusts are not suitable beneficiaries. Reach out if you have questions.
  • When can you make changes? Anytime. Your priorities evolve as life unfolds, and your beneficiary designations should be just as flexible—always reflecting what matters most to you today.
